Excellent chemical resistance, elevated heat resistance and mechanical properties, performance reliability in aggressive environments, solutions for carbon fiber
Vinyl ester formulations are unsaturated formulations based on ethoxylated or propoxylated Bisphenol A, Novolac and/ or Epoxy formulation, reacted with Acrylic acid or Methacrylic acid. Also formulation backbones with Urethane groups and Maleic anhydride/ Methacrylates can be produced, providing special properties and benefits. Some Vinyl ester formulations can be combined with Isocyanate to form hybrid systems. Vinyl ester formulations are characterized by their excellent resistance to heat and chemicals, and superior mechanical properties.
Consequently, Vinyl esters are highly suitable for making tanks, piping and components used in Industrial processes. Applications include storage tanks, process vessels, pressure pipes (e.g. firewater, cooling water, transport of liquids), power plants (chimney liners, FGD exhaust piping, scrubbers, and electrostatic precipitators), desalination process components, and mining equipment.
The superior resistance to sea water and osmosis, make Vinyl esters highly suitable for applications in Marine. Both in structural components (hulls, decks) and for use as tie coat these products are being used since many years, providing boat owners long-life durability and great aesthetics.
In addition, Vinyl esters can be used in combination with a broad variety of fibers, including glass and carbon fibers. This allows for the manufacturing of structural components for wind turbine blades, pultruded profiles used in Building & Infrastructure, Transportation and Offshore. The great mechanical properties translate into predictability of long term structural integrity and part performance.
AOC Products
AOC has a broad range of products based on Vinyl ester formulation chemistry in its portfolio sold under Atlac®, Beyone™ and Daron® brand names. In order to find the best product for your application, please check out the Product Selector on this web site or consult the Atlac Product Guide. You can contact an AOC Technical Service representative for helping you in the product selection process (emea@aocformulations.com).
Some Atlac® formulations are Styrene-free. They feature easy processing and close to zero smell. This translates into a healthier work place, happier operators, reduced process interruption in confined space environments, and minimized emissions from finished parts.
For applications in repeated contact with food and drinking water, AOC has developed dedicated products that comply with EU regulation 10/2011. These formulations are manufactured in line with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) according to EU Commission Regulation No. 2023/2006, a standard that is a prerequisite for the production of plastic articles in contact with food.
The dedicated products used in contact with food and drinking water carry the letters “FC” in their product name. Please confirm if the product can meet specific regulations applicable for the application and country you have in mind, by requesting a Regulatory Data Sheet from your AOC Commercial Representative.
