In some cases materials need to be fire retardant, for example, the chairs in public transport. If not, the risk of a fire is too big. This can be done by using fire retardant chemicals. A fire retardant substance helps to prevent or slow down fires. This is caused by using a chemical additive, such as aluminumtrihydrate (ATH).
At AOC we offer formulations filled with this aluminumtrihydrate, which demonstrate low smoke behaviour in fire situations. These types of resin are know for their fire retardant properties. An example of one of these types of resin is Synolite™ 5011-N-1. Synolite™ 5011-N-1 is specifically developed for the Pultrusion process. Thanks to the very low viscosity it can be highly filled with aluminumtrihydrate (ATH) to reach fire retardant properties.
