Lianzhong upgraded chimney with Atlac 590UHT for AOC Nanjing plant
In November 2024, the customized incinerator chimney for AOC by Zhongfu Lianzhong was installed in AOC Nanjing plant. The inner cylinder of the chimney is made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), which is manufactured with AOC's high temperature and corrosion-resistant resin, Atlac 590UHT resin.
Advanced Resin Production Base
Located in Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park, a national chemical industrial park, AOC Nanjing plant was invested and built in 2013 by the Chinese and foreign shareholders (Sinopec and DSM) of Jinling DSM, the predecessor of Jinling AOC. The plant has a production capacity of 100,000 tons of specialty resins and 5,000 tons of gelcoat. When the plant was built, it adopted the Group's globally synchronized production technology, high-standard, safe, healthy and environment-friendly equipment and facilities, and advanced tanker truck logistics solutions.
Among them, the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) system handles waste gas, waste water and waste liquid, which is incinerated at a high temperature of 1100 degrees, with a DRE of ≥99.99%. After harmless treatment, the off-gas is discharged off from the overhead chimney, and the online monitoring system is able to monitor the gas emission to meet the requirements. The Off-gas is recovered through high temperature waste heat, which maximizes the recycling of heat generated by the incineration process. This provides a heat source for the production process, which is not only conducive to environmental protection, but also contributes to energy saving and emission reduction.
Scientific Testing
The off-gas chimney of incinerator in AOC Nanjing plant was originally made of carbon steel lined with castable material to prevent corrosion, but after nearly ten years of operation, the lining material cracked and peeled off, and the flue gases came into direct contact with the carbon steel shell, resulting in corrosion and posing a certain potential danger, which is why AOC decided to replace the chimney.
The Incinerator chimney is 50 meters high, and the corrosive media is the waste gas, waste water, incineration flue gas and the condensate of the incineraton flue gas from the factory's production process. The operating temperature is 160°C-170°C, with a transient maximum temperature of 200°C.
In order to select a suitable heat- and corrosion-resistant material for the chimney, the suitability of FRP corrosion-resistant hangings made of two types of resins, Atlac 590Z resin and Atlac 590UHT resin, respectively, was tested by hanging them in the flue of the plant's incinerator from May 2022 onwards. After 12 on-line runs, the FRP hangings were systematically tested for their appearance, cross-section and mechanical properties. The tests concluded that the FRP material made of Atlac 590UHT resin can fully meet the requirements of the plant's chimney conditions.
Reliable Solutions
Based on the requirements of the plant's chimney conditions, AOC technical experts and Lianzhong engineers decided to adopt a technical solution for the incinerator's off-gas chimney, wits an FRP chimney liner made of Atlac 590UHT resin inside a steel outer cylinder.
The height of the steel outer cylinder is 48 meters, with variable diameter design, and the inner and outer surfaces are painted to prevent aging. The diameter of FRP inner cylinder is DN1600/DN1100/DN800, the thickness of each section is 18mm/16mm/14mm, the total height is 50 meters, which is 2 meters higher than the steel outer cylinder. The field connection between FRP cylinder sections is installed with socket gluing, and hand-laying layer reinforcement is carried out inside the socket gluing place. A rain cap is provided between the top of the steel outer cylinder and the FRP inner cylinder to avoid rainwater and condensate entering between the inner and outer cylinders and corroding the inner surface of the steel cylinder.
On-site construction, place beyond the chimney outer tube of the FRP chimney short section and rain cap inside and outside the surface is also brushed and coated with AOC temperature and corrosion-resistant imported vinyl gel coat 8393-W-9747, with excellent UV aging resistance performance, whuch strengthes the protection of these two parts, and ensure the beauty of the surface.
Successful and Close Collaboration
On November 5, 2024, Zhongfu Lianzhong transported the joints of the chimney to AOC site for jointing and installation, completed the lifting and positioning of the chimney on the 14th.The chimney was put into operation on the 16th. With the close collaboration of both parties, the project was successfully completed one week ahead of schedule.
Zhongfu Lianzhong and AOC have been cooperating for more than 20 years, and have participated in many major projects together, such as the Diversion of Yellow River to Qingdao, Control of the Five Rivers, and the 40 million tons/year refining and chemical integration project of ZPC, etc. The production and installation of incinerator chimney of AOC factory was undertaken by Zhongfu Lianzhong is another good cooperation between the two companies.
