AOC Reveals New Resin Innovations at JEC

At the upcoming JEC World 2018 trade show, AOC will be presenting several new product innovations. These include Daron® 8150 formulation for High Performance SMC, Neomould® 2017-S-01 tooling formulation for the manufacturing of high quality composite tooling, and Beyone™ 700-T-01 FC formulation used in the relining of drinking water networks.

 

Together with its customers, AOC is pushing the limits of both Composites part manufacturing and performance. Taking an integral approach to new product development, AOC is using its full expertise in formulation chemistry, material science, and Composite processing to develop new technologies and markets.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SMC

For Automotive applications and Carbon SMC applications, AOC is introducing the novel Daron® 8150 formulation. Featuring excellent wetting of both glass and carbon fibers, the formulation enables to obtain elevated strength and stiffness in light-weight molded components. The easy processing of Daron® 8150 formulation brings quality consistency and predictable performance in high volume manufacturing. In addition, molded parts have demonstrated ultra-low emissions.

 

TOOLMAKING MADE EASY

AOC is introducing the new Neomould® 2017-S-1 formulation for manufacturing composite tooling. The unique formulation characteristics enable to make molds that perfectly mirror the surface and dimensions of the plug. The thixotropic nature of the formulation allows for excellent application on vertical surfaces without sagging. Although the through-cure is fast, the exothermic heat is surprisingly low. For these reasons the formulation is highly suitable for making thick parts in one go.

 

FAST AND SAFE DRINKING WATER RELINING

Relining has been the solution of choice for renovating sewage pipe networks, avoiding open streets and associated inconvenience for nearby residents. With the new styrene-free Beyone™ 700-T-01 FC formulation now also drinking water networks can be easily repaired at competitive cost. The ingredients of the formulation are on the positive list for food contact applications, the formulation is manufactured in line with GMP, and formulation/ glass liner systems have been approved by KIWA-ATA. Liners made from Beyone™ 700-T-01 FC formulations have already seen many successful installations in recent years, providing excellent resistance to network pressure fluctuations and great continuity of operation to network owners.

 

LIGHT-WEIGHT AND DESIGN FLEXIBILITY

Another good example of how AOC is able to create new technologies in close collaboration with its customers, is the development of light-weight passenger bus components of VDL Bus & Coach. These components are made by applying a foaming formulation formulation supplied by BÜFA on the basis of formulation from AOC. Besides bringing unique shapes and great aerodynamics, the use of low density composite parts results in major weight savings for the bus, translating into lower fuel cost and emissions.

A large bus front module made with the vacuum expansion process (VEX-technology) is exhibited at the Auto Inno Planet area at JEC (Hall 6, M89).
