AOC will feature new technology for flame-retardant, structural composites at CAMX
26 October 2023CAMX 2023 attendants can learn how novel technology improves sustainability while lowering the weight of flame-retardant structural composites. Daniel Rodriguez, RTM/Infusion Product Leader, will feature Firepel® R003 G-2 Series during a CAMX 2023 Education Session on Tuesday, October 31 in Location C106.
The new formulation technology achieves flame retardance by uniquely combining unsaturated polyester backbone chemistry with reactive flame-retardant technology. The combination eliminates the use of toxic additives and/or heavy fillers, both of which can compromise the environmental sustainability of the composite.
Rodriguez will present tests showing how the new technology provides improvements in both mechanical properties and fire resistance when compared to traditional practices. The new Firepel® R003 G-2 Series is applicable to any structural application. The formulation is especially suited for electric vehicle (EV) battery enclosures and other transportation uses where lighter weight improves sustainability.
